Ramblings..

-JM turned 6 months old a few days ago. It seemed like he changed so much just over the weekend. His bottom two teeth are really coming in and all of a sudden he is CLIMBING everywhere. He babbles so much and finally moved on from his inch worm crawl to the real thing. He likes "walking" around with our help and pulls himself up on anything sorta low. He favorite things to play/put in his mouth: corner of any rug, Drew's boots, a cardboard box, napkins, one frayed piece of carpet, paper, any cords, and my phone. Why do we have toys?? Things he does not like in his mouth: baby oatmeal, mashed bananas, blueberries in those mesh holder things, or green beans. It's a constant challenge keeping things out of his mouth, I don't understand why he doesn't want real food??

-One day it cooled down enough for him to wear this.... I was dying!!

-It still has been pretty warm here (70s). We are about to go back to Nebraska and I have no idea how to dress a baby for cold weather. Any tips, Nebraska people? I am hoping we will get to see some snow when we are back for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It's crazy that the students here can count all the times they have seen snow on one hand.

-The semester is wrapping up pretty quickly with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. We have time for about two more bible studies and a Christmas Party. In college everyone said the years just go by faster and faster. It's strange being an adult with a family, and still somewhat going off a college schedule. It goes even faster with a baby!

-Lastly, Drew and I have started playing Scrabble..... (now I feel really lame). We are trying to find things to do after JM goes to bed that are a break from TV. Any other ideas? We are definitely rookies at Scrabble. Also, any board game suggestions? I think we are going to get a new one for Christmas.

  1. Hi! I found you through one of the 7QT linkups and love your blog!! My husband and I love board games and even registered for a few when we got married. Our favorites are Settlers of Cataan, Munchkins and Wits and Wagers. We also love Scattergories, which can be played with two people. If you love Scrabble, you should try Bananagrams!! Hope you enjoy!

  2. Ooo I have so many thoughts!

    1. Baby dressing for NE: layers on layers. Kate was about 6 months when it got cold last year, and I just put lots of different layers on her so her temp could be easily adjusted. It was usually a short-sleeve onesie (or long sleeve if it was super cold), followed by leggings & a sweatshirt/long sleeve shirt and socks. Probably similar to what you're doing now! If you'll be here for awhile over breaks I recommend one of those car seat covers that zips up over the baby - they are LIFESAVERS because you don't have to worry about a blanket coming untucked or falling out, and they replace a coat since they can't wear coats in carseats.

    2. Board games! you know we are both big board game geeks. We just bought Bohnanza for David's birthday and are really liking that so far! Monopoly Deal is a good easy one to learn. We're into complex & pretty nerdy games so our other favorites are Dominion and Settlers of Catan - we make up our own rules for the last one because you're technically not supposed to play with just 2 people. We love playing board games together...wild Friday nights when you're married! ;)

    1. I forget our babies are almost a year apart I think! Thanks for the tips... layering sounds like the way to go. I bundled him up the other night and he ended up sweating hah. And I forgot about the car seat covers! My friend made him one and I'll finally get to use it.

I'll have to go back over to your post about board games and check out the ones you like. It's it crazy how things change when you're married and have a baby??

    2. Gosh I wish I could convince my husband to play board games with me!!! It sounds like so much fun, maybe I will work on it again ;) You are inspiring me ladies!! death to TV! well maybe after all these pegdolls are painted hey Hannah? I need a few more evenings of totally mindless TV so I can finish painting and get them sent to you

    3. I did a peg doll exchange before JM was born... it took me forever and I even enlisted some help!! Ugh. I love having them, but painting them was not my thing.

    4. Yes I think JM and Kate are just about a year apart, her birthday is May 30! Life definitely slows down a little bit once you're married with a baby...but I'm an introvert so I was totally okay with it -- at least, most of the time! ;)

  3. I second the car seat cover! We like to play games too... though most of the ones we own are "party" games, so we've been trying to expand our selection for ones 2 people can play.

I also recommend Bananagrams! (and Boggle... if you both like word games). Battleship, Cribbage, Chess, Labyrinth.

  6. 1.) YES to all the things babies like/don't like to put in their mouths. They so weird.

2.) We own the same blue fleece suit with bear ears. THA CUTEST! JM wears it quite well, I must say.

3.) I'm seriously the board game queen. Before John Paul came along, we were struggling with infertility and needed something to pep up our marriage, raise our spirits. Soooo, naturally we went to the board game aisle at Target and went a little crazy. Anywho, it really depends on what you're into, but there are so many great games out there for couples. If you want to start exploring the more strategic-type games, I highly recommend a cooperative game like Pandemic or Forbidden Island. In cooperative games, you play as a team to beat the game, rather than play against each other. Makes for a very pleasant/happy gaming experience (except for when the game beats you, of course). Other neat yet easy-ish two-player strategic games are Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, Bohnanza, Splendor, and King of Tokyo. Can't go wrong with any one of those. If you really want a challenge, Agricola is fantastic! There's an Agricola app for the iPad that you could try out to see if you like it. But seriously, that game can be cutthroat, so WATCH OUT. Games that are more like Scrabble that we enjoy include Hive, Zip It, and Mastermind. Weeee games!

    1. I am definitely looking into all of these games. Thanks for the suggestions! I saw you had a board game themed baby shower too, that is so cute! I think the idea of a cooperative game sounds wonderful. One of us isn't the best loser.... haha I won't name any names though ;)
